Albion are on the brink of making Brazilian midfielder Renato Neto their fourth signing of the summer.

The Seagulls have agreed terms with Belgian club Gent for the powerful 25-year-old, The Argus understands.

Neto was at the training complex in Lancing yesterday for a medical.

Albion were working last night to tie-up loose ends to complete the deal.

Neto joined Gent three years ago after starting his career in Europe at Sporting Lisbon.

He scored 16 goals in 140 league games, helped them to the Belgian title for the first time in their history and featured for them for the last time in their 1-0 friendly defeat by Wolves in Austria on Wednesday.

Barring any last-ditch hitches, he will become Albion's fourth European club signing of the summer after Australian goalkeeper Maty Ryan (Valencia) and German No.10 Pascal Gross and Austrian left-back Markus Suttner (Ingolstadt).

eto has been high on Albion's list of midfield targets.

They had some interest in Aaron Mooy, the Australian who rejoined Huddersfield after helping them to promotion last season on loan.

They were also keen on Werder Bremen's Danish midfielder Thomas Delaney but the German club were reluctant to sell and the asking price was prohibitive.

The Seagulls have managed to strike a deal for Neto with Gent, who have already signed a replacement.

Neto, linked previously with Leicester, Sevilla and Galatasary, will become the first Brazilian to play for Albion.
