Albion boss Chris Hughton has left the door ajar for a loan move for Oliver Norwood.
But it is unlikely to happen until later in the transfer window, once all the midfield options are in place.
The Argus revealed last month that Albion are willing to listen to interest in Northern Ireland international Norwood.
Fulham have been linked with a loan swoop.
Hughton said: "If there was, that would be one of numerous calls we get.
"There would possibly be a situation where that (a loan move) could happen, but at this moment no."
Albion remain keen to sign another central midfielder. Brazilian Renato Neto's proposed move to the Amex from Gent in Belgium was wrecked when he failed a medical due to a knee problem.
