Anthony Knockaert is making “good progress” with his ankle injury - but he is “touch and go” for Albion’s Premier League opener against Manchester City at the Amex on August 12.

Manager Chris Hughton gave an update on the French winger following last night’s friendly victory at Southend.

Knockaert suffered ankle ligament damage ten minutes into the Seagulls’ first pre-season friendly in Austria against Fortuna Dusseldorf.

Hughton said: “He certainly hasn’t had any setbacks. He is making good progress and it will be about trying to get him fit for that first game of the season. I think he’ll be touch and go.”

Striker Sam Baldock is still yet to resume training after a minor calf operation earlier in the summer.

Hughton said: “We are still waiting on Sam. At this moment he is not training with the first team.

“He’s still in that rehab stage, trying to get over that little barrier. The good thing with Sam is he always has a good fitness level, so we anticipate it won’t take him long to get up to match speed.”
