Albion's central midfield options are poised for a timely boost with the club record capture of Dutch international Davy Propper.

The Seagulls' move for the 25-year-old PSV playmaker, reported by The Argus website yesterday, coincides with an injury to Beram Kayal ahead of Manchester City's opening visit in the Premier League on Saturday.

The Israeli international limped out of yesterday's 3-2 friendly defeat against Atletico Madrid at half-time.

Manager Chris Hughton said: "His ankle is a bit sore, so we'll assess him over the next couple of days."

Albion are still intent on signing another striker, right-back and third-choice goalkeeper before the transfer window closes on August 31.

Hughton said: "Am I happy with the squad? No, because we want to be as strong as possible going into this season and come the end of the month, but I am also conscious that we have got to bring in the right players.

"I am happy with the quality but we would like to strengthen if we can."

The showpiece warm-up against Atletico attracted a club record crowd for a friendly of over 27,000 and record sales in the Amex store for a single day, up 40 per cent on the previous high.
