Bruno has urged Albion’s players to make a name for themselves in the Premier League – starting against the title favourites.

The Seagulls skipper believes individuals relatively unsung nationally have potential to emerge as stars in the top flight.

But he admits the Seagulls might have to play ugly at times among English football’s elite.

They get the perfect chance when City head to the Amex for an eagerly awaited opener on Saturday.

Bruno said: “Every season you see players coming from the Championship to the Premier League and they do really well.

“Michail Antonio of West Ham, for example. He went from Nottingham to West Ham and he was flying. It’s a big step but it’s not about fear.

“It is about being competitive.”

Winger Solly March is among the players who could make a big Premier impact on the evidence of his outing against Atletico Madrid on Sunday.

And Steve Sidwell rated centre-back Shane Duffy as Albion’s best outfield player in the first half as Atletico dominated possession.

Duffy and company will similarly be on guard against a City side generally being quoted at a shade under 2-1 for the Premier League title this term.

Bruno said: “We need to be a really ugly team to play against.

“That’s so important. And we are really proud of that.

“We can be a really defensive team but we can play really good football as well.

“We adapt depending on who we play against. And that’s going to be like that all season.”
