Albion have confirmed the club record capture of Colombian winger Jose Izquierdo, subject to a medical, work permit and international clearance.

The Seagulls have agreed terms with Izquierdo's Belgian club FC Brugge and personal terms with the 25-year-old.

The Argus understands the fee is around £13.5 million, shattering the transfer record for the third time in two months.

It eclipses the £10 million paid for Dutch midfielder Davy Propper on Monday and £5.2 million for Australian goalkeeper Mathew Ryan in June.

Albion are "in the process of completing the deal, subject to a medical in the UK in the next 24 hours, the necessary work permit, and international clearance."

Izquierdo could then be included in the squad for Saturday's Premier League opener against Manchester City at the Amex.

Manager Chris Hughton said: "Jose is someone we have been aware of for some time and has been one of the standout players in the Belgian league over the past three years.

"He's been an exciting player for Club Brugge and in the season he helped the club win the title, in 2015-16, he was also Belgium's Player of the Year.

"Jose has good experience with almost 250 senior games in both Colombia and Belgium, and has played in the Europa League, Champions League and international football, having made his debut for his national team this summer."

Izquierdo began his professional career in Columbia with hometown club Deportivo Pereira, moving to Once Caldas in 2013, then to Europe in 2014 with Brugge where he has scored 34 goals in 84 league appearances.

He made his international debut as a late substitute against Spain in June and came on to score against Cameroon a week later.
