Albion have launched an overhaul of their strike force for the Premier League by lining up Ghana prospect Raphael Dwamena.

The Seagulls have agreed a fee of around £10 million with FC Zurich for the lanky 21-year-old and he has agreed personal terms.

Dwamena was in Paris last night waiting for an entry visa to travel to the UK for a medical tomorrow. The deal will also be subject to the same work permit and international clearance processes Albion went through with £13.5 million record signing Jose Izquierdo.

They are cautious about receiving the all-clear for Dwamena, who made a two-goal debut for Ghana against Ethiopia in June.

If the deal goes through then Dwamena will not be available, at the earliest, until the game after the international break at home to West Brom on September 9.

Albion have now cooled their interest in Kenneth Zohore after making a seven-figure bid for Cardiff’s Danish striker, but they remain in the market for another forward as well as Dwamena.

Everton’s Oumar Niasse is among a cluster of names on the target list, although that would be a loan. They face competition from other clubs, including Fenerbache, but the 27-year-old from Senegal is thought to prefer staying in the Premier League.

Meanwhile, Interest in Tomer Hemed is mounting. Four Championship clubs are now involved in a shoot-out to sign the Israeli target man, The Argus can reveal.

Two fresh bids for Hemed have been rejected from Reading and another Championship club, as reported on The Argus website on Saturday.

Hemed, Glenn Murray and Sam Baldock, who is out for at least another month following summer calf surgery, are currently the only out-and-out strikers in Chris Hughton’s squad.

The deal for Dwamena, prolific for Zurich and Austrian club Lustenau last season, would take Albion’s summer spending to over £45 million after buying Izquierdo, Pascal Gross, Mathew Ryan, Markus Suttner and Davy Propper, and borrowing Izzy Brown from Chelsea.

They are also still intent on adding another defender and third goalkeeper to the squad before the window shuts at the end of the month.
