Boss Chris Hughton has praised Jayson Molumby's part in Albion's Carabao Cup progress.

The 18-year-old Republic of Ireland central midfielder made his full debut in tonight's 1-0 win against Barnet.

Molumby impressed and started the move for the only goal, scored by 19-year-old substitute James Tilley early in the second half.

Hughton, who made 11 changes from the Premier League defeat at Leicester, said: "As regards a work ethic and desire to win I thought we were very positive on the ball. There were a lot of players who haven't played so much football of late. I was really delighted with Jayson in midfield."

Tilley took over from Anthony Knockaert, who ended a pre-planned 45 minute run-out with a caution for dissent.

The Argus: The 19-year-old from Billingshurst tucked away his first senior goal (above) to book Albion's spot in the third round draw in Beijing at 4.15am UK time on Thursday morning.

Hughton said: "There is no doubt he has got ability. When you look at the last ten or 15 minutes and they are marauding down the left, your game has got to be a complete game.

"You have got a responsibility to the team and they are the things over a period of time he had got to make sure he imporves on but that's normal with gifted type players."

The League Two visitors pushed Albion all the way. "It was a tough game and credit to Barnet," Hughton said. "They were very well organised and made it very difficult for us.

"I could see from the off we were going to have a lot of possession and these games change if you score earlier."
