Albion fans have been told Davy Propper will be a Premier League hit – in central midfield.

The Dutch star is heading back to club duty after his two-goal heroics for his country against Bulgaria on Sunday.

Propper has yet to produce his best form in the Seagulls’ engine room and thrived in a role further forward for his country.

But Fox Sports analyst Hans Kraay, the former Albion defender, is convinced his old club have made a shrewd signing and that Chris Hughton is using him in his best role.

Kraay told The Argus: “Davy Propper played his best games for Vitesse Arnhem and PSV as one of two controlling midfielders. He is a very skilful box-to-box player.

“I did the game on Sunday for TV and we were surprised they used Propper as a No.10. That’s not his position.

“But Wesley Sneijder played such a horrible game against France on Thursday that I think Dick Advocaat had to do something.”

Kraay, a cult hero at the Goldstone in the 1980s, is now a highly respected analyst on Dutch television, specialising in the Eredivisie and the national team.

He added: “Propper helped us out quite a bit on Sunday. In my assessment for the game on TV, I said if you score two goals don’t tell me you didn’t play well.

“But I didn’t count him having more than 18 or 19 touches.

"He will be more dominant playing where Hughton has been playing him.

“Even though he scored two goals in that match, Brighton have got it absolutely right.

“I know the Premier League is very different to the Eredivisie and maybe he will take some time. But Davy Propper will impress people at Brighton, I’m convinced of that.”

Kraay said he was puzzled by Albion’s two previous Dutch signings, Danny Holla and Elvis Manu.

But he added: “I still follow Brighton all the time because I had a great time there and my daughter was born there.

“And I can tell supporters of my favourite Premier League club that signing Davy Propper is certainly not a mistake.”
