ALBION are ready to check on Tomer Hemed after he missed his nation’s latest World Cup clash.

But the club were last night quietly confident their last man standing up front would not be ruled out of Premier League action.

The Seagulls are thought to be not unduly concerned by news that Hemed missed Israel’s qualifier in Italy with a reported thigh strain.

But their own medical staff will carefully assess the player as the countdown continues to the home game with unbeaten West Brom on Saturday.

Hemed was already the one fit senior striker at Chris Hughton’s disposal after injury setbacks for Sam Baldock and Glenn Murray were compounded by a blank in the summer transfer window.

It is understood his absence last night for Israel, who only had a slim chance of making the play-offs for a place in Russia next year, was of a precautionary nature.

Albion, desperate for Hemed to be fit for Saturday, have monitored the situation carefully.

They contacted the player yesterday to allay their fears.

Murray could have an outside chance of some involvement against West Brom as the Seagulls plot a way to secure their first win and first goal in the Premier League.

But a more realistic comeback date from the ankle injury suffered at Leicester recently is one of the two forthcoming trips to his previous club Bournemouth.

Experienced defender Jonny Evans, wanted by Manchester City in the summer transfer window, is available again for West Brom after a hamstring injury. They could give a debut to pre-deadline signing Grzegorz Krychowiak, brought in on loan from PSG.
