RECORD signing Jose Izquierdo is set to wing it for Albion on his full debut.

Boss Chris Hughton has earmarked the £13.5 million Colombian for his main position on the left flank in tonight’s Carabao Cup third round tie at Bournemouth.

Izquierdo can operate in other positions across the front line, but Jamie Murphy is more likely to move into a central area, with Hughton concerned about protecting his strike options for Sunday’s Premier League visit of Newcastle.

Asked about using former Brugge flyer Izquierdo as a number ten or nine, Hughton said: “Probably not at this moment. That we haven’t seen. He is predominantly a right-footed player that has played on the left.

“He can play in other positions. He’s probably a bit like Solly March, who can play on either flank and has played for us off the front, but you would still always see Solly as a wide player.

“That’s where we predominantly have brought him (Izquierdo) in for and more so it’s probably where I see him.”

Another of Albion’s new signings, Italian Ezequiel Schelotto, makes his first appearance at right-back.

Hughton said: “The difficult part for both of them is their (lack of) game time in pre-season.

“This is such a demanding league that you have really got to be up to speed to play the part in it you would like. It’s a really good opportunity for both of them.”

Izzy Brown (hamstring) and long-term victim Sam Baldock (calf) are still sidelined, so Hughton is reluctant to risk Glenn Murray against his old club as he steps up his comeback from ankle trouble.

Hughton told The Argus: “At this moment we have two natural strikers in Glenn, who has missed a period, and Tomer.

“I am mindful that going forward they are players we have to protect a little bit as well for our good. You don’t want to go into future games with one number nine.”
