Chris Hughton says responding to defeats will be key for Albion to survive in the Premier League.

The manager faces his old club Newcastle at the Amex on Sunday after losing twice to Bournemouth, from 1-0 up and then in extra-time with a team showing ten changes in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday.

Hughton said: "There's been lots of positives, even though they were games that we didn't want to lose and are disappointed that we did.

"Our level of performance hasn't been bad and, once you have that, there can alway be encouraging signs.

"The key is going to be responding to them, putting them in the past and very much focusing on the following games."

Newcastle are five points better off than Albion after three straight wins under Rafa Benitez, the last two against Stoke and Swansea courtesy of Jamaal Lascelles headers from corners.

Hughton said: "Every game is a different game and they're in good form at the moment with three wins, and it just goes to show you the margins.

"They have a very good centre-half in Lascelles that scored two goals from set-plays, and that can change those margins."
