Albion boss Chris Hughton is not looking for any luck against Newcastle after a controversial red card and freak equaliser contributed to two defeats in the Championship last season.
They renew rivalries in the Premier League at the Amex today (4pm) with Newcastle ahead of the Seagulls in the table again.
Hughton's side were beaten in the north-east by a Jamaal Lascelles header and JonJo Shelvey free-kick early last season following a red card for Sam Baldock (below) for catching goalkeeper Matz Sels.
Albion led in the return at the Amex in Ferbruary through an early Glenn Murray penalty, but Mo Diame fluked an 81st minute equaliser and Ayoze Perez scored an 89th minute winner.
To make matters worse, Newcastle pinched the title at the death as Albion dropped eight points out of nine, but Hughton does not believe the fates owe his team.
"No, I never look at it that way," he said. "We had a man sent-off up there and it was Shane Duffy’s first game. Overall, considering it was an away game it was not too bad a performance, particularly for the period of time we had ten men.
"The performance at home was one that on another occasion can win you a game, but I remember it well and sometimes you need that little bit of luck and little bit of quality and they got both in the same game.
"But they are a good side and the second goal they scored was one of top quality.
"I don't think I will look back to last season's games or the fact we might owe them one. I just hope we can perform well enough and can show the qualities we have shown in good phases already this season to win the game."
Both matches last season were live on Sky Sports, as is today's encounter. Hughton said: "Because of where we were in the division and it was very much us and Newcastle last season in the top two, they were both big profile games, both on television as well.
"The fact both of us are here now hopefully puts us in good stead for what we are about to come against."
