Chris Hughton believes Glenn Murray can make up for lost time in the Premier League with Albion.

Murray made only six starts for Bournemouth before rejoining the Seagulls and spearheading promotion from the Championship with 23 goals last season.

Hughton said: “I think there is a little bit of that (making up for lost time).

“Glenn was wonderful for us last season and his last opportunity to play in the Premier League was at Bournemouth and he probably wouldn’t have played as many games as he would have liked.

“So he knows that this is another really good opportunity to be involved at Premier League level and he is certainly very excited by it.”

Murray, hampered recently by an ankle injury, seeks his first Premier League goal since scoring the winner for Bournemouth at Chelsea in December 2015 when Newcastle visit the Amex on Sunday (4pm).

Hughton said: “He will know, as we know, that it is more difficult to score goals at Premier League level than in the Championship.

“But Glenn is one who has always had a knack of being able to do that. It’s a different stage that he has an opportunity on now.”

Hughton has warned his players concentration levels will have to be high from start to finish after relinquishing a lead to lose 2-1 both against Newcastle at the Amex in February and in the last Premier League game at Bournemouth.

He said: “Bournemouth have in those forward areas a lot of pace and power, so you’re going to be tested.

“And it’s making sure as much as possible that concentration level, going with players and not leaving gaps, is at its highest.

“But it is very difficult to do that for 90 minutes and the times when you are successful are when you have managed to do it for as long as possible.”
