Tim Krul has targeted at least a point for Albion against his old club.

But the newly-signed goalkeeper expects a tight tussle at the Amex.

It could be a somewhat strange occasion for the Dutchman after his transfer from Newcastle was made permanent.

Krul has not played a league match for Toon for two years but he knows the set-up which has returned them to the Premier League.

And, despite their charge into the top four with three successive wins, he believes they are a side Albion should target for some reward.

Especially when the action takes place at the Amex.

Krul was asked by The Argus whether the Seagulls might be putting pressure on their home games as they let chances to take points pass them by on the road.

He replied: “There are certain games you have to win. Before the season, you look at them and West Brom at home was a must-win.

“Newcastle at home is a game you need a minimum of a point.

“There are certain games where you know it is going to be difficult.

“But it is a long season. The boys took a bit of time to get into it but we are all on all cylinders now.”

Albion got on the front foot early in the two games which have seen them take points, at Watford and at home to West Brom. Fans will hope to see the same against the Magpies.

But Krul has been impressed by the tactical acumen he has seen among the Albion set-up.

They got it right for three-quarters of the game at Bournemouth last Friday.

And he also felt there was a lot to commend about what went on in front of him when he made his debut in the Carabao Cup defeat.

He said: “It was obviously a shame we couldn’t walk away with a win.

“There was a lot of defending to do. That was the way we set it up.

“We knew we had to be tight and hit them on the counter.

“For me, the relation between the centre-halves and the goalkeeper is key. They put blocks in and I put blocks in for them.

“It’s the togetherness and you saw that from all of them. Not just them. The two young lads in midfield did a great shift.

“It’s not easy to just walk in and play 120 minutes.”

Now back to the main event. Quite appropriately, things tend to be very black and white with Newcastle with little room for grey areas.

They seem to be either on a real high or on the verge of mini-crisis with not much in the middle.

That is the perception from here by the way, not a view expressed by Krul. They are a bit like Leeds in that respect.

As has happened when the Elland Road men have come south at times in recent years, Albion need to change the well-back visitors’ buoyant mood.

Krul, who has moved south but still has lots of contacts on Tyneside, said: “It will be a tight game. Newcastle are on a high at the moment.

“We need to be as solid as we have been.

“We created a few chances against Bournemouth on Friday.

“Just keep believing. Don’t look too far ahead. Game by game and we will be fine.”
