Beram Kayal continued his comeback from injury in Albion's under-23s tonight.

The Israeli midfielder featured in a 1-0 win at ten-man Southampton.

It was Kayal's third outing in the under-23s since breaking a leg in the final pre-season friendly against Atletico Madrid at the Amex.

Niki Maenpaa, Connor Goldson and Uwe Huenemeier also figured but Sam Baldock, who played in the two previous games with Kayal on his comeback from calf surgery, was not involved.

Saints had Jan Bednarek controversially sent-off 14 minutes into the clash at their Staplewood training ground for bringing down Soufyan Ahannach when ajudged to be the last man.

Albion's young Republic of Ireland striker Aaron Connolly stole the honours on his return from injury.

Introduced for the second half, Connolly made the breakthrough in the 56th minute with a left-foot drive from 15 yards.

Albion (4-2-3-1): Maenpaa; Mateju, Goldson, Huenemeier, Cox; Molumby, Kayal; Bjordal, Tilley, Ahannach; Alzate.

Subs: Connolly for Alzate (46), Sanders for Bjordal (61), Collings, Dallison, Collar.
