ROB ANDREW reckons Sussex have shown their ambition by bringing in Jason Gillespie as head coach.
The Aussie star will be at Hove from January after agreeing a three-year deal.
His appointment by the second-division Championship outfit has taken the cricket world by storm.
It was quickly welcomed by current players including Luke Wright and Ollie Robinson, who played for Gillespie at Yorkshire, as well as past stars Chris Adams and Matt Prior.
Sussex have invested in a top coaching name, who won two successive Championship titles at Headingley and is now involved in the Big Bash.
Andrew said the county had shown ambition within their means.
Sussex’s chief executive told The Argus: “The board have been very supportive.
“We have paid what we expect to pay.
“It shows some ambition from the club as well.
“There is no doubt people want to be successful here.
“We don’t have a blank chequebook, we don’t have a sugar daddy in the sense of paying the bills if the club can’t pay them.
“We have to be sensible as a business but that doesn’t mean we can’t be ambitious with our coaching set-up and our playing set-up.”
Andrew added: “It is a very big appointment and we are thrilled Jason has been prepared to consider us and come in and make a difference.”
