Albion boss Chris Hughton has hailed Jose Mourinho's contribution to English football.

Hughton will be trying to topple former Chelsea chief Mourinho for the first time when he takes the Seagulls to Manchester United on Saturday.

"There's probably quite a few who haven't beaten him," Hughton joked.

"He has given our game an awful lot. He's an absolute top manager and a winner.

"That's why he is manager of Manchester United. For us it's as tough a game as they come away from home."

Albion's last top flight visit to Old Trafford was in 1983, when the clubs also met in the FA Cup final.

Hughton said: "These are the days you have worked so hard for as a team, that we got promotion for. The excitement of going to this type of stadium, the club, the history.

"It's certainly a nicer place if you have come away from there and given a decent account of yourselves.

"It's not the best of places if you don't."
