CHRIS HUGHTON says there is no crisis at Albion as he wrestles with a barren run of results and goals.

The Seagulls head into tomorrow’s Amex clash against high-riding Burnley on a sequence of two points from 18 and no goals from open play in the Premier League for eight hours.

Asked if that represents a crisis, boss Hughton said: “No. It’s not because we are a newly promoted team that in some aspects went through a good period, better than what people expected.

“We have to take that into consideration. We are amongst a group of teams also not in good form, we are the newer ones in the division and we are gaining experience as we go along. But it doesn’t mean it’s something we are particularly happy with.

“We are conscious we need to start picking up points and scoring goals and that we are now approaching two very big home games for us.”

Albion host Watford a week after Burnley, seeking their first goal in open play since Jose Izquierdo’s equaliser against Stoke at the Amex last month.

Hughton admits a solution to the goalscoring issue cannot wait until the January transfer window, when attempts to sign a striker will be renewed.

Hughton said: “First and foremost, any problem we have to address now, continue to work hard in training.

“Of course, you can go through periods of not scoring and one game or two games can make a difference. But it’s difficult to be big goalscorers, and with the experience of playing in this division and the quality of teams you are up against we know it’s going to be more difficult.

“Regarding January, nothing changes. The recruitment department worked hard right through the summer and continue to work hard all the way to January. If there’s an opportunity and we think is right we will certainly do something.”

Albion have no fresh injury worries. Ex-Seagull Stephen Ward’s return to the Amex is in doubt but Burnley are boosted by the returns from injury of Ben Mee and Matt Lowton.
