Connor Goldson is poised for his Premier League debut for Albion against Watford at the Amex on Saturday in place of banned central defender Shane Duffy.

Irishman Duffy is suspended after collecting his fifth yellow card of the campaign against Burnley.

Goldson has made two League Cup appearances since a heart op to repair an enlarged aorta.

The 24-year-old, who almost joined Ipswich on loan at the end of the summer transfer window, will partner Lewis Dunk against Watford following Duffy’s late booking for a deliberate handball when he misjudged the bounce inside the Burnley half.

Manager Chris Hughton told The Argus: “He will be a miss but these things happen. He knew he was on four but it’s an emotional game, a physical game, and you can’t go into a game thinking ‘I mustn’t get booked’.

“It was a bit of a silly booking and as soon as he did it he was the first one that would have been thinking that but you have to move on from that.”

Dunk collected his fourth caution against Burnley to join Glenn Murray on the brink of a ban. Both will escape if they stay out of trouble in the Watford match, which marks the cut-off under a change to the rules this season.

Watford will be without skipper Troy Deeney, who saw red in the 4-1 home defeat by Huddersfield. Goalscoring midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure will also be missing for the Hornets after his fifth yellow card.
