Newcastle could call in some fresh legs when they host Albion on Saturday.

Toon boss Rafa Benitez made five changes to the XI which kicked off last Saturday’s win at West Ham as his side hosted leaders Manchester City tonight.

Benitez went on the defensive but saw his side lose 1-0 to a Raheem Sterling goal. It was their fifth successive home defeat.

He could now look to bring back members of the quintet left out tonight.

Henri Saivet, who scored against the Hammers, missed out altogether while Dwight Gayle, Christian Atsu, Matt Ritchie and Ciaran Clark were left on the bench.

Newcastle legend Alan Shearer told BBC Radio 5 live: “He’s got one eye on the weekend. They cannot be beaten here at St James’ Park again against Brighton.”

Jonjo Shelvey returned in midfield after suspension with Paul Dummett, Chancel Mbemba, Jacob Murphy and Rolando Aarons also recalled.

Gayle and Atsu went on in the final half-hour as Newcastle belatedly chased an equaliser.
