Maty Ryan has revealed the hidden Premier League role played by Tim Krul – as the Dutchman hopes for an FA Cup call.

Krul could keep goal for Chris Hughton’s side in the third round derby at home to Crystal Palace on Monday.

Now Ryan has told how he has been doing his bit in the league, despite having yet to play a minute for the club.

The Albion keeper said: “Tim is always around for me to bounce a couple of questions off.

“He gave me a couple of tips on what to look for when we went to Newcastle because he played a long time there.

“But he does that in every game.

“He has played in the Premier League a long time, he knows lots of the players we are coming up against.

“Whatever he feels is worth mentioning, he helps me out so I really appreciate it from him.”

Former Palace striker Glenn Murray admits the tie is not what either manager would have wanted.

But he expects Hughton to field a strong side.

Murray said: “You would have to ask the gaffer about that.

“But I’m sure he will be looking to win the game.”

Hughton has used the third round in the past two seasons to field players not being used in the league.

But that might not be the case in a televised derby.

Murray said: “I think probably, where both clubs are in the Premier League, we could have done without the tie.

“The fuss doesn’t bother us. The fans created a great atmosphere and that’s good for us on the pitch. But it’s one of those where it could have been a more comfortable afternoon for both clubs.

“Instead we are both preparing to go to war again.”

Palace manager Roy Hodgson has revealed he will make changes for the clash.

He said: “Even though the fans may not like to hear it, I know I am going to give some players who haven’t been involved a chance to show what they can do and that will mean one or two players who have been playing non-stop for the last 11 games may be left out.”

Seagulls’ Steve Sidwell is back in training after a back problem but the tie will come too soon for him as he targets a mid-January return.
