Chelsea had Pedro and Alvaro Morata sensationally sent off ahead of their trip to Albion.

Antonio Conte’s men were taken to extra-time and penalties by Norwich in an FA Cup third round replay at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea ultimately won the shoot out 5-3 after a 1-1 draw but success came at a cost.

Pedro and Morata were both dismissed near the end of extra-time for second yellow cards and will miss the trip to the Amex.

Andreas Christensen, Morata and Ngolo Kante, all likely to start at the Amex, had to get off the bench in the final stages of normal time as the hosts were tested.

Conte then had to throw on Eden Hazard during extra-time.

Chelsea had thoughts on the Premier League – and the trip to Falmer for the early kick-off on Saturday - from the start as they made nine changes.

Cesar Azpilicueta and Tiemoue Bakayoko were the only players to stay in the team that started the Premier League game against Leicester.

Ross Barkley, recently arrived from Everton, was not eligible for action so could make his debut at the Amex.

Cesc Fabregas and Gary Cahill also sat out the tie, as had been expected, with minor injuries.

Conte had hoped to see his side rattle in a few goals to lift confidence off the back of three successive 0-0 draws in various competitions.

But the first half was reminiscent of Albion’s trip to Stamford Bridge on Boxing Day with little threat of a home goal.

Michy Batshuayi made the breakthrough on 55 minutes from Kenedy’s low cross but Norwich refused to lie down.

Nelson Oliveira hit the bar for the Canaries in the first half.

And Josh Murphy almost levelled just five minutes after Batshuayi’s opener when he shot against the upright.

Just when it looked like job done for the hosts, Jamal Lewis levelled with a header in the last added minute at the end of the 90.

It turned into the sort of gripping tie Chelsea did not want, not least due to some talking points involving VAR and match referee Graham Scott.
