ALBION will continue to monitor Wigan forward Nick Powell after the transfer window closed last night.

The Seagulls are interested in the former Manchester United prospect but were always dubious about a deal being completed before the 11pm deadline. They had bids rejected according to an unconfirmed report in the north-west.

The clubs are understood to have been a long way apart in their valuation of the 23-year-old, who has scored 11 goals for the League One leaders this season.

A takeover of Wigan by new Chinese owners is thought to have further complicated negotiations.

Albion under-23s former Motherwell central defender Ben Hall has joined League Two promotion challengers Notts County on loan for the rest of the season. Injury-hit under-23s striker Jonah Ayunga has gone to Poole Town on loan until the end of the campaign after temporary spells at Burgess Hill and with Sligo Rovers and Galway.

Albion’s FA Cup fifth round tie against Coventry at the Amex has not been picked for live TV. It takes place on Saturday, February 17.
