Dale Stephens said Mathew Ryan bailed our Albion at Stoke.
But he did not think the spot kick should have been awarded.
Referee Bobby Madley saw contact between Stephens and Jese as a Xherdan Shaqiri cross drifted towards the byline.
Madley pointed to the spot but Ryan saved Charlie Adam’s spot kick before Lewis Dunk reacted quickly to the rebound.
Stephens watched replays just before starting the trip home to Brighton.
But he said: “I don’t think it’s a penalty. I’m going to see it back now.
“It was an unbelievable save - and the follow-up by Dunky as well.
“He (Jese) tried to run around me and I’ve got my eyes on the ball.
“There was a little hand to stop him running around but it happens every game.
“If they had scored the penalty I’d have been very disappointed but Maty bailed us out.
“We rode our luck a bit towards the end but we should have been out of sight.”
