CHRIS EUBANK Jr felt he thought he had done enough to nick the win after he lost on a unanimous points decision to George Groves in the semi-final of the World Boxing Super Series – and would love a rematch.

The three judges scored it all in favour of Groves, 29, with the cards reading 117-112, 116-112 and 115-113 at the Manchester Arena.

Eubank Jr, 28, threw everything he had at Groves in the last round trying to force a late stoppage but could not prevent the second defeat of his 28-fight career.

The Brighton fighter, who suffered a bad cut above his right eye in the third round, said: “It was a great fight and I thought I’d done enough in the later rounds to nick it but George had a game plan and he stuck at it.

“All credit to George, this is all part of boxing, we win some and lose some.

“I hope for a rematch. I hope it was a good enough fight to get one.”

Father Chris Eubank senior confirmed he felt Groves was the clear winner.

He said: "He didn't perform.

"He's a lot better than what you saw. He was just loading up, that's the cold hard truth of it. He's a good fighter but he didn't show it."

WBA champion Groves was taken to hospital after the fight with a suspected dislocated shoulder – which has put his place in the super-middleweight final in doubt against the winner of either Callum Smith or Jurgen Brahmer.

Groves went to hospital rather than attending the post-fight press conference, where his trainer Shane McGuigan elaborated on his fighter's problem.

Asked if Groves' shoulder had popped out, McGuigan replied: "He said it felt like that.

"I think it was 50 seconds into the last round. There was no towel going in, when you were so far up on points...well he should have been, I thought the scorecards were far too close.

"He was always going to be able to survive that last two minutes."

On whether it could rule Groves out of the final, McGuigan added: "It's a massive concern for the tournament. George Groves' health is paramount."
