ALBION’S in-form Premier League relegation rivals Swansea City are sweating on the outcome of an injury suffered by influential central defender Alfie Mawson.

He was due to feature in Saturday’s fifth round FA Cup tie at Sheffield Wednesday but a knee locked up in the warm-up and he watched the 0-0 draw at Hillsborough on crutches wearing a protective brace.

Mawson, who has seen a specialist and undergone a scan, has started 50 matches in succession for Swansea, the longest run by any player in the Premier League.

The Welshmen’s manager Carlos Carvalhal has urged England coach Gareth Southgate to keep tabs on the highly-rated former Barnsley prospect ahead of this summer’s World Cup finals in Russia.

Saturday’s Amex visitors Swansea are 16th, a point and two places below Albion, following a five-match unbeaten run in the Premier League and ten overall including the FA Cup.
