ALBION keeper Christian Walton reckons Southampton are “there for the taking” in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup.

The Seagulls’ young fourth choice, on loan to Wigan, played a starring role in their shock fifth round win against Manchester City at the DW Stadium on Monday night.

Walton has now set his sights on a fourth Premier League scalp with the League One promotion contenders at home to Southampton next month on quarter-final weekend, when Albion visit Manchester United.

The 22-year-old Cornish giant said: “We’ve kept two clean sheets against Premier League opposition in the FA Cup and beat Bournemouth over two games. I think Southampton will be there for the taking.

“We need to beat Rochdale at home on Saturday and then hopefully win the next few, as that will give us massive confidence going into the Southampton game.”

Walton, speaking to Albion’s official website, described the shock victory over City as “probably the best night of my life in football”.

He added: “It was a little bit surreal but it’s something that you just have to embrace and enjoy. It’s the level that I want to play at, and I want to test myself against those types of players.
