PREMIER League status is serving Albion well.

During their six-month spell in England’s top flight, the Seagulls have shattered their club record signing twice and eclipsed the £1 million mark for matchday takings.

Now they are achieving a following from all corners of the globe – thanks to their stars.

Defender Gaetan Bong has found a namesake more than 5,000 miles away in Arizona who sent him a letter pledging his support to the club.

Worcester Bong wrote to Albion saying he watched a game and drew inspiration from the Cameroonian left-back, so decided to buy the number 3 shirt worn by his favourite player.

The letter, along with snaps of 59-year-old Worcester in his Seagulls shirt, reads: “Bonjour Mr Gaetan Bong.

“I am writing to let you know I was watching a Premier League game a few months ago and saw a jersey with the same last name I have.

“I was so thrilled that I purchased your jersey and proudly wear it when I play football (soccer).”

Worcester goes on to declare how he has drawn inspiration from Gaetan.

He continues: “My name is Worcester Bong and I live in Prescott Valley, Arizona.

“I am 59 years old and I have played soccer for fun over a number of years.

“I’ve never played professionally nor when I was in high school or college.

“I am inspired by you when I am playing.

“I’m married and I have two grown sons.

“Unfortunately not all the Brighton and Hove Albion games are televised here on a channel I can watch, but I try and look for any highlight clips.

“Of course being in the Premier League is wonderful for your club.

“Again, I just want to say ‘merci beaucoup’ for being my inspiration.”

Gaetan tweeted a picture of the letter with the caption: “Fans over the world are amazing. Thank you.”

Gaetan has been one of the outstanding performers for Albion this season as they battle to maintain their Premier League status.

The club currently lie in 14th,

He joined the club in 2015, signing from Wigan Athletic.

Recently, however, he has been at the centre of controversy.

Gaetan is the alleged victim of a racial slur from West Bromwich Albion player Jay Rodriguez.

It is claimed Rodriguez pinched his nose after they clashed last month.
