Albion could field eight non-Brits and just one Sussex boy in their starting line-up today.

Granted, it would arguably be harsh on Hailsham’s very own Solly March, who has made a strong case for inclusion in the XI which faces Swansea.

But it is not beyond the realms of possibility that March will be on the bench while Anthony Knockaert gets the vote out wide along with certain starter Jose Izquierdo.

Such an eventuality would offer some symmetry, especially if the Seagulls go on to take the points.

Because last time they won at home to Swans, the opposite was true.

Their starting line-up included eight Sussex boys and just one non-Brit in Irish goalkeeper Wayne Henderson.

The Argus:

Dean Cox lets fly for his goal

Mid-Sussex wideman Dean Cox scored one of his finest goals for the club on the way to a 3-2 win.

Essex striker Alex Revell, netted twice in the second half.

Albion boss Dean Wilkins dreamed of sending out a team of 11 Sussex players when the new stadium in Falmer finally opened.

But he was disappointed that supporters did not buy into the vision.

The midweek League One match in the run-up to Christmas, 2006, was watched by just 5,209 spectators, the second worst league crowd at Withdean up to that stage of the season.

The Argus:

Dean Wilkins was delighted - until he heard the attendance figure

Their lowest of 5,146 was for Blackpool’s televised visit on a Sunday in October.

Wilkins said: “I’m not sure what is going to bring people out if they are not excited about watching players from Sussex produce at times scintillating football so I am a bit disappointed with that but there is obviously nothing I can do about it.

“I just urge people to come out and watch, because they are missing something quite special at times.

“It is not for 90 minutes but in patches it’s quite breath-taking.”

While it was easy to appreciate Wilkins’ all-Sussex vision, the subsequent 11 years have shown how members of the growing overseas contingent have also proved to be real crowd-pullers.

Lewis Dunk is a certain Sussex-born starter today and will be on his own if March does not get the nod.

Albion: Henderson; Whing, Hinshelwood, Lynch, Rents; Fraser, Hammond, Mayo, Cox; Revell, Robinson. Subs: Carpenter (for Fraser, 72), Gatting (for Robinson, 82), Santos (for Cox, 90), Kuipers, John.
