Albion players will be beginning to believe they can go all the way now that they are only two games away from the FA Cup final.

That is according to Jimmy Case, who speaks from experience.

The midfield hard man was involved in both of the club's previous quarter-final appearances - as part of the winning teams.

Case scored the only goal against Norwich at the Goldstone in 1983 after Albion had knocked out his beloved Liverpool at Anfield in the fifth round.

Three years later, he was in the Southampton side that won 2-0 at the Goldstone.

Case says tonight's trip to Manchester United in the last eight should hold no terrors for the Seagulls.

He told The Argus: "In '83 we weren't doing that well in the league and got relegated, but as soon as the cup came around the whole city was up for it.

"We all know about the FA Cup and the worst time to go out is the semi-finals, but when you are at the quarter-final stage you go through the other teams in your mind, who is in there.

"There is no reason why they can't get past this hurdle. They beat Arsenal, who have still got top quality players, and they've had a good run apart from the Everton defeat.

"It is a difficult one for them, but everybody said that when we went up to Liverpool."

It felt strange for Case to return to his old stomping ground to help dump Albion out once he had moved along the south coast to Southampton.

"Having left it was like coming back, so it was a big thing," he said. "I enjoyed every moment at Brighton.

"But it's like when I knocked Liverpool out playing for Brighton, you are playing for the club you are playing for and the supporters. It wasn't a revenge type thing, even though I think Chris Cattlin (manager) said they should let me go because my legs had gone.

"Even today I look for Southampton and Brighton and hope they are doing well.

"Brighton are at the moment. The way they have come through everything, I'm just made up for the fans."

Case is back in Brighton on Monday for a football legends night at the Theatre Royal.
