Former Albion duo Inigo Calderon and John Gregory have won the Indian Super League with Chennaiyin FC.

Gregory, the former Crawley Town boss, has become the first Englishman to lift the Indian Super League crown.

Former Seagulls midfielder Gregory, 63, last managed in England in 2015 when he left the Reds but his side beat Bengaluru FC 3-2 in the final to bring him some long overdue silverware.

Gregory took Seagulls legend Calderon, 36, to Chennaiyin because of his ability but also leadership qualities.

His faith in the Basque has been rewarded with Calderon, pictured, also winning the award as the fittest player in the ISL this season.

Gregory said: “If I’m still the only Englishman to have won it in 20 years’ time I’ll be happy.”

He added: “It was an amazing experience for us. I was not here in 2015. So, they’ve (the club) experienced it once already.

“This is my first time and it is more than what I ever anticipated.

“Since I sat with my players last October it has been an incredible journey.”
