DAVY PROPPER wants to be as influential for the Netherlands as he has been for Albion.

The Dutch launch a new era against England in Amsterdam tonight (7.45pm).

The clash against Gareth Southgate’s World Cup qualifiers is ex-Everton and Southampton boss Ronald Koeman’s first match in charge.

Koeman hopes to rekindle former glories with players like Propper, who has started every game in central midfield for the Seagulls in the Premier League.

Koeman was in the Dutch team that won the 1988 European Championships, but they failed to qualify for the last tournament and this summer’s World Cup finals in Russia.

Propper told The Argus: “For us it’s a new phase in the national team. We don’t go to the World Cup so we have to build a team for the European Championships.

“There are new players now who need to stand up.

“But we need some time. From now the younger players are going to bigger clubs. The players are growing and after that I think the national team will also be on a good level.”

Propper has another friendly with Holland against Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal on Monday evening before resuming Albion’s battle for survival against Leicester at the Amex.

The £10 million signing from PSV Eindhoven has eight more matches to maintain his ever-present record and help the Seagulls to safety.

He said: “I hope so. I am fit at the moment. I’ll still keep going. It’s a great team to play for.

“And when we achieve our goal it will be perfect. Some say 40 (points). I’d be happy to be above the 40.”

Three of Propper’s Albion team-mates are also on international duty. Mathew Ryan is with Australia in Norway (5pm), Shane Duffy with the Republic of Ireland in Turkey (5.30pm), while Jose Izquierdo’s Colombia take on France in Paris (8pm).
