ALBION marksman Glenn Murray has pledged to put himself on the spot again after a second penalty failure of the season at the Amex.

His effort was saved by Kasper Schmeichel in the 2-0 defeat by Leicester.

Murray also spurned a penalty against Burnley but four of his 13 goals this season have come from the spot and he will not hesitate to volunteer if Albion are awarded another.

“No, not at all,” he told The Argus. “This is part and parcel of it. Obviously the Burnley one earlier in the season I missed the target, I haven’t done my job.

“Kasper’s done his job and he’s done it well. That’s the way I look at it. I got it on target and it’s a good save.

“It is a mind battle. Obviously he watches me and I watch him. You are trying to second guess each other. That’s always the case. A lot of it is luck. It just wasn’t to be. He earned his money.”

Murray checked his run-up but lost out in the battle of wills with Schmeichel, who has now emulated father Peter with three penalty saves in the Premier League.

Murray said: “Just watching him, he reacts on the momentum of the move and I wanted to try to slow that down a bit so he couldn’t gain a few yards, creeping out and closing the angle down. I just tried to not let him do that.”

Vicente Iborra’s header and a tap-in for Jamie Vardy in stoppage time after Leicester were reduced to ten men by a second booking for Wilfred Ndidi inflicted Albion’s second 2-0 defeat by the Foxes.

“Leicester have not been good for us as a team,” Murray said. “I thought we were a different beast to the brand new Premier League team that went up to Leicester and went out with a whimper.

“I felt as though we controlled the game for large periods and on a different afternoon we could have won it. It was a very open, end-to-end game, which didn’t really suit us.”

Albion are still six points clear of the relegation zone in 13th ahead of Saturday’s home game against Huddersfield, who are 16th.

Murray said: “It’s nicer than three but nine would have been nicer still. So it depends which way you want to look at it. I think we would have taken this at the start of the season. One weekend can change it.”
