Dani Buet wants to end a bitter-sweet week on a real high – by beating the leaders.

She reckons Albion Women will be better prepared this time as they face mighty Doncaster Belles.

The Seagulls saw their hopes of topping WSL2 take a big blow when they lost 2-1 at London Bees on Thursday.

Just 24 hours later, Buet was crowned player of the year at the Amex, an award voted for by the coaches.

Now comes a first game at what will be Albion’s home ground next term as they tackle the Belles at the Checkatrade Stadium, Crawley, today (2pm).

Albion go into the fully-professional top tier next season and Buet sees every game as preparation for that challenge.

She told The Argus: “We were never saying we want to win the league, we wanted to win every game going. We have shot ourselves in the foot a little bit (by losing to Bees).

“Credit to us, though, we were still trying to go for the win when it was a draw. But these are lessons we have to learn.

“As a team that is probably where the inexperience comes into it.

“We have still got to play the top three or four teams and there is no reason why we can’t get a result against them.

“It is all about building confidence, that is the key for us now.”

Albion bounced back from defeat at Doncaster to win their next four league games before going down to the Bees.

Buet believes they were caught out a bit on their trip to Yorkshire but they won’t be fooled again.

She said: “It is always physical against Doncaster and I think that is probably why they beat us last time if I am honest.

“They were physical and I’m not sure we quite expected it.

“It is going to be a completely different game this weekend.

“I know we can’t wait for it. We are super excited about playing at Crawley. I have seen pictures and it looks an incredible stadium.

“So hopefully we get as many fans as we can this weekend, especially against Doncaster who are always well-supported.

“Hopefully it will be nice and loud and we will have a bit of atmosphere.”

There was certainly a buzz at the Amex as the prizes were handed out.

Adam Virgo presented a video report from the recent home win over Tottenham, including interviews with boss Hope Powell, assistant Amy Merricks and skipper Sophie Perry.

Powell said of Buet: “She has been a real leader throughout the season.

“Her knowledge of the game is really good, she has been inspirational to other players.”

Buet, who was left high and dry when her former club Notts County suddenly packed up, said the awards ceremony spoke volumes for her current club.

She said on the big night: “This just shows everything that Brighton is about.

“Everyone is sitting together, everyone is mingling together and it is a fantastic club. It is great to be such a part of it.

“Some teams would never have this luxury. Brighton go above and beyond for people who work at the club, who work in the community and who are fans.

“I didn’t expect the award one bit.

“I’m over the moon and the fact it was the coaching staff who have given it to me means loads.

“Hopefully this can spur me on and keep me going. But for now our heads are turned to Doncaster.

“That’s a massive game for us and we need to win that one.”
