Ben Brown believes Championship rivals will find Sussex tough to live with this summer.

The county are preparing for their home kick-off when Gloucestershire visit Hove from tomorrow (11am).

They have so far drawn at Warwickshire and Leicestershire with several batsmen showing signs of form.

Six of the nine teams in division two have already had wins and Sussex would love to join them.

Brown said: “As a captain you want players knocking on the door asking why they are not playing or indeed batting higher up the order. We’re in a good place squad-wise at the moment.

“We haven’t had a huge amount of luck in our first two games if I’m honest but, when that happens, I think teams will find it hard to live with us.”

Brown joined those praising Luke Wells for his hard-fought century at Leicester to follow his figures of 4-81 in the hosts’ second innings.

The skipper said: “He’s a tough cricketer, he doesn’t give it away and has the sort of temperament that youngsters at the club should be learning from.

“And, with his leg-spin developing as well, Luke is becoming a key member of our side – and long may it continue.”

Sussex will announce their squad today to face Gloucestershire.
