Albion’s under-23s are through to their play-off final after turning on the style at the Amex tonight.

Goals in the last 20 minutes from Viktor Gyokeres (2) and Henrik Bjordal secured a 3-0 win over Middlesbrough.

Albion always looked the better, more inventive side but chances passed them by for much of the evening.

The breakthrough arrived in the 71st minute.

George Cox overlapped Bjordal down the left and drilled in a cross.

Gyokeres met it at the far post with a powerful downward header back across the keeper.

Boro were reduced to ten men when centre-back Tom Brewitt was shown a straight red for his challenge on Aaron Connolly.

Albion took full advantage. Bjordal extended the lead when he controlled a dropping ball in the box before turning to fire home.

Then Gyokeres rode a tackle as he drove forward, played the ball wide right to Ales Mateju and was on hand to thump home the return pass.

German defender Uwe Huenemeier added experience to a young side whose enterprise delighted those who got to the Amex.
