Sussex have pledged to take no risks with Stiaan van Zyl after naming an unchanged matchday squad.
The Sharks select from a 14-man party as they take on Hampshire in the Royal London One-Day Cup at Hove today (11am).
Van Zyl missed the seven-wicket thumping of Kent on Thursday but could be back from a knee injury at Taunton on Tuesday.
Sharks coach Jason Gillespie said: “We are hopeful he won’t be out for too long.
“Stiaan is a pretty important player for us and a wonderful cricketer.
“Hopefully we welcome him back sooner rather than later.
“I don’t have a time frame but the medical staff are not anticipating a long absence at all. We want to let it settle down a little bit.
“I think it’s just a little bit of tendonitis.
“We want to make sure one of our very important players is back to full fitness soon.”
Hampshire have named a 15-man squad which includes the return of Reece Topley and Mason Crane.
