Jason Gillespie has praised a young Sussex run-maker after another landmark innings.

Hastings-based Harry Finch, 23, made his first limited-overs century for the county in their Royal London One-Day Cup thriller with Hampshire.

But he could not head-off a two-wicket last-over defeat.

Finch’s 108 followed his maiden Championship ton, also at Hove, just two weeks previously.

Sussex coach Gillespie told The Argus: “I’ve had good chats with Harry about what he has been working on.

“He is just trying to keep his game very simple and develop some consistency with his pre-ball movement and then just simply react to the ball.

“He has got the shots that he looks to play. He has been fine. I’ve enjoyed watching him bat and I know the lads are all delighted that he has got his maiden Championship hundred and now his maiden List A century.

“It was very good on a disappointing day.

“It’s nice to see a young man go out there and scored 100 for his county.”

Stiaan van Zyl will have a scan today on a troublesome knee and misses tomorrow’s RLODC fixture with Somerset at Taunton.

Gillespie could look to rotate his seam attack after a heavy recent workload for Ishant Sharma, Ollie Robinson and David Wiese.

That will certainly be the case when Chris Jordan and Jofra Archer return from IPL duty.

Gillespie said: “Those three have bowled a lot of overs.”
