ALBION are urging Premier League clubs to designate an area for away fans who want to sit down.

It follows mounting complaints from supporters who followed the Seagulls around the country this season and had their view blocked by standing fans.

Albion’s proposal will be debated by clubs at the Premier League’s annual general meeting in Harrogate early next month, The Argus can reveal.

Standing in away areas has become the norm, even though it is contrary to ground regulations.

Most clubs turn a blind eye to the practice, as it is difficult to force large numbers of away supporters to sit.

Huddersfield are the only Premier League club currently with a must-sit away area and Albion now want everybody else to follow suit.

Chief executive Paul Barber said: “For us it has become a big issue. A lot of our fans have complained.

“People this season have missed out on some really great moments, because they have got someone standing in front of them who won’t sit down. It’s not fair.

“Our away games are usually sold out and we can’t say children, old people and the infirm come first and have to sit at the front, because of the loyalty points system.

“We understand that away fans like to stand, so we are trying to find a solution for everyone.

“The Premier League are glad that we have raised it and have given us permission to make it an agenda item.

“It’s difficult because away areas are configured differently at different grounds, but we feel it’s worth a debate at least to make away games more enjoyable for people.”
