SARAH TAYLOR starred on a record-breaking day as international cricket returned to Hove.

The Sussex wicketkeeper scored 118 off 106 balls to help world champions England beat South Africa by 69 runs and square their three-match series.

Taylor was one of three players to reach three figures, the first time that has ever happened in a women’s one-day international.

Lizelle Lee threatened to clinch the series for the tourists as they chased a victory target of 332 off 50 overs before her innings was ended by a Sussex one-two.

Lee, who made 117 of her team’s first 170 runs, was smartly held at cover point by Danni Wyatt off the bowling of county colleague Georgia Elwiss.

The day-nighter, which also saw Tammy Beaumont score 101, attracted a crowd of 1,500 to the 1st Central County Ground.

Wyatt and Elwiss took two catches apiece with the latter taking 1-43.
