Albion under-23s goalkeeper Robert Sanchez is joining League Two side Forest Green Rovers on a season-long loan.

The 20-year-old Spaniard attracted widespread interest after helping Simon Rusk's youngsters to promotion and will now get his first taste of senior action in the 2018-19 season with Mark Cooper's team.

Rusk said: "Robert has been excellent for us and he fully deserves his chance to go out on loan and play senior football.

"We managed to keep a number of clean sheets last season, which helped us achieve promotion, and Robert was a key member of the squad that contributed towards that.

"Forest Green are getting a promising young goalkeeper and Robert will be gaining more experience on his journey within football - therefore it is a great move for all parties involved.

"We wish him the best of luck during his time with Forest Green and we will certainly keep track of his progress throughout the upcoming season."

Sanchez, awarded a new three-year contract in April, will join Rovers from July 1 until the end of June next year. Albion will be able to recall him during the January transfer window.

Signed from Levante three years ago, Sanchez has kept 14 clean sheets in 28 Premier League Two appearances for Rusk's prospects over the past two seasons, as well as playing five times against Football League opposition in the Checkatrade Trophy.

Albion have taken a similar loan route with his predecessor Christian Walton, who is expected to rejoin Wigan on a temporary basis in the Championship after helping them to the League One title.

The Argus revealed earlier this week plans to sign two new goalkeepers as competition and cover for No.1 Mathew Ryan, as Tim Krul and Niki Maenpaa are both likely to leave.
