Albion are interested in Sunderland goalkeeper Jason Steele.

The Sunderland Echo has reported that Steele is in talks with a Premier League club.

The Argus understands the Seagulls have their eye on the 27-year-old former Blackburn Rovers, Middlesbrough and England under-21s shot-stopper.

The twice-relegated Black Cats signed Steele on a four-year deal 12 months ago.

After a difficult start and a collapsed loan move to Derby, he made a successful return to the Sunderland side towards the end of the season.

Albion are in the market for two goalkeepers to support No.1 Mathew Ryan, with Tim Krul and Niki Maenpaa both leaving.

Their interest in Sunderland's versatile midfielder Paddy McNair has cooled after the Black Cats accepted a bid of around £5 million from Middlesbrough for the Northern Ireland international.
