Albion new boy Leon Balogun is heading for a World Cup showdown with Argentina.

Balogun, signed recently by the Seagulls from Mainz, helped Nigeria beat Iceland 2-0 in Group D.

The win puts them on to three points, two clear of Argentina who they meet in the final round of fixtures.

Croatia are now through to the next stage with six points.

Two brilliant second-half strikes from Leicester forward Ahmed Musa gave Nigeria the points.

Between the goals, Albion’s new signing showed his aerial ability at both ends.

Balogun made a super headed clearance from a cross whipped in from Iceland’s left as Nigeria protected a 1-0 lead.

Then he rose at a Nigeria corner and headed inches over.

Iceland blew their best chance to get back into the contest in the closing stages when Gylfi Sigurdsson sent a penalty over the bar.
