David Button is ready to compete for an Albion place – and work with “one of the best coaches in the country”.
The experienced Fulham goalkeeper signed a three-year deal with the Seagulls today and joins Jason Steele and Mathew Ryan in the squad for the coming Premier League season.
He will be working under the guidance of goalkeeping coach Ben Roberts, who he knows from his time at Charlton.
Button said: “It’s a lovely stadium and I’ve played against the club a lot of times in the past.
“I’ve always been impressed whenever I’ve come to the ground, and the facilities and supporters are great too, so I’m looking forward to being on the right side of that now.
“I’ve worked with Ben Roberts before at Charlton Athletic and I know what he’s about – he’s one of the best coaches in the country and I’m glad to be back with him here.”
Ryan, back from World Cup duty this week, will start as No.1 but Button expects to push him hard.
He added: “There’s a lot of competition in my position and I want to be a part of that.
“It’s something that’s brilliant as a player and at this level it’s normal – they’re both great goalkeepers and I’m looking forward to working with them and helping us all improve.
“Training will be a good chance to get to know the lads straight away. I’m told it’s a great bunch.”
“I couldn’t be happier to be here. I’m delighted and looking forward to the season ahead.
