Yves Bissouma can “explode” into a Premier League star with Albion.

That is the verdict from an insider who has followed the former Lille midfielder closely as a potential new signing.

The scout asked for neither his identity nor that of the Ligue 1 club for whom he works to be revealed.

But he has tracked Bissouma since he arrived from Mali as a product of the highly-regarded Jean-Marc Guillou Academy in Bamako.

The scout told The Argus: “He’s a player who has everything to explode in the Premier League.

“If he confirms the potential he has, he could very quickly join a very big club.

“He has very good athletic quality. He is solid and quick, technically very good and has a good shot.

“Where he must improve is he must be more active in winning the ball and also at the mental level.

“He is a young player and he can get carried away.

“He has a very big self-confidence, which is good, but he can relax and think he is Frank Lampard when he is not there yet.

“If he conquers that, with increased maturity, he can do what Paul Pogba did.

“Paul Pogba thought he was the best player in the world.

“If you look at the World Cup, he has come back to earth, he has put himself in second place to the collective unit. France are world champions because he had a very good World Cup.

“That’s is Yves’s problem but in Ligue 1 for me, in his position, he is one of the top youngsters and can become a very good player.”

Albion emerged to snap up Bissouma from under the noses of Portuguese champions FC Porto.

He would give the option of a 4-3-3 or can play a box-to-box role in a midfield two.

The talent scout added: “Playing in a 4-3-3 with a midfielder just ahead of the back four, he would be one of the two a bit higher up.

“He could play as one of two midfielders but the player alongside him would need to be very good in terms of winning the ball.

“Then, when he gets the ball, he can make things happen.

“He can break the lines, he can dribble, he can find a way through, he can take charge of the game and get his team playing.

“I’ve followed him for a while and, if he improves some areas, Brighton could make a big profit on him.

"They are not making a mistake signing him.

“I have a lot of belief in this player because he has qualities which a lot of players don’t.”
