Chris Hughton says Tony Bloom will provide him with the strongest squad possible as Albion fans hope for another star signing.

Many supporters would love Iranian winger Alireza Jahanbakhsh to chose the Seagulls - for what would be a club record fee - ahead of Leicester in what is being widely seen as a two-team race to secure his signature.

AZ Alkmaar have already brought in Romanian winger Doris Rotariu on loan from Club Brugge to cover for Jahanbakhsh’s expected departure.

While Hughton does not discuss specific targets, he said it would “great” if his squad could be further boosted.

Asked whether Albion were making progress towards another signing, Hughton told The Argus: “That I don’t know, I must admit.

“As I’ve said, we are happy with the squad we have got.

“But we have a chairman who wants us to have as good a squad as we can come the start of the season.

“We all know the window is closing earlier than last season.

“If that is able to happen, great.

“If it’s not, we have got a good squad that can hopefully cope with the rigours again of the season.”
