Chris Hughton has urged misfiring frontman Jurgen Locadia to keep getting in great positions.

But his first concern will be that the former PSV forward is fit for the rest of pre-season.

Locadia went off in the second half of Albion’s 2-1 friendly defeat at AFC Wimbledon on Saturday.

He had earlier failed to convert three one-on-ones after getting in behind the Dons defence with ease.

Locadia is desperate to impress after seeing chances limited following his record-breaking £14.5 million arrival in January.

Albion boss Hughton said: “He has had a very good pre-season so far. He has come back in really good shape.

“He didn’t get the end product but that is what the pre-season period is about.

“For somebody who is a right-footed player - but who has a good left foot as well and can get good power with his left foot - I think all of his chances came on his left foot.

“I would rather we have striker who is going to get in there and miss chances at this stage of the season. That is certainly a positive.”

Locadia, who arrived in England carrying a hamstring injury, went off at Wimbledon holding the top of his left thigh after being tackled.

He was being assessed yesterday.

Hughton said: “He came in January, he came injured, then got up to speed and of course didn’t get the games we would have liked him to have got.

“But he has been very good in pre-season so far.

“We are hopeful it is not bad.”

Shane Duffy left the action early on Saturday with what seemed to be a thigh issue although he did not appear to be in great discomfort.

Glenn Murray is due to return after an ankle injury tomorrow when Albion send out teams at Charlton and behind closed doors versus Portsmouth.

World Cup pair Mathew Ryan and Leon Balogun will also see action along with new signing Yves Bissouma.
