JASON GILLESPIE has hailed the “ruthless” performance which sent Sussex into a promotion place.

The county took 20 wickets in two sessions to rout Glamorgan by an innings and 154 runs and go second in the table.

Jofra Archer took eight wickets on his first Championship outing at the ground this year.

They bowled out Glamorgan for 85 and 88 to send out a stunning message to their rivals for honours.

Head coach Gillespie said: “I haven’t seen many better performances than that in county cricket.

“I have been around county cricket for a little while now.

“That bowling performance – the discipline and the ruthlessness – was as good as I have seen. It was brilliant. It was ruthless.”

The Sussex coach is still not talking about a promotion push.

He said: “All we focus on is our games and what will be what will. There are other games going around the country which we can’t control.

“All we focus on is what we need to do out there and we’ve focused on that wonderfully well.”

Gillespie, whose family are over from Australia, will celebrate the rapid win with a family outing to the Palace Pier.

He said: “I’ve got my wife and kids over. We’ve earnt a day off and I’ll probably take my kids down to the pier. They love it down there!”
