LOCAL trainer William Knight pulled off a shock on the second day of the Qatar Goodwood Festival.

Angmering-based Knight's Soto Sizzler was too hot for his rivals in the Move Over To Matchbook Handicap.

Veteran jockey Jimmy Quinn produced the 20-1 shot down the outside in the mile-and-a-half contest to pick off fancied pair Corgi, ridden by Pulborough's Jim Crowley, and Making Miracles, the mount of Brighton's Ryan Moore.

Knight said: "I've always loved him. He has always been the apple of my eye. He didn't run last year, he was so backward. We put him away and minded him.

"As long as we keep minding him I think we'll have a lovely horse next year.

"He's our first runner of the week. We've only got two - we've got a two-year-old running later on and we might have a runner on Saturday.

"It's important to have winners here and for Ian Heseltine (owner), who has had horses with me for a few years, so I'm delighted.

"We've been lucky here. Illustrious Blue won many a time for us, but it has been a while to find another. Ian lives ten minutes away, so it's very special for everyone."

Horsham handler Gary Moore has the Cesarewitch in mind for Altaayil, a surprise second to runaway winning favourite Lil Rockerfeller in the opening Matchbook Betting Podcast Handicap over two-and-a-half miles.

The 28-1 chance, with Hector Crouch on board, was the less fancied of Moore's two runners. Son Ryan rode Kloud Gate, who looked most likely to challenge the all-the-way winner before fading into fifth.

Moore senior told The Argus: "We have ridden this horse (Altaayil) cold to finish the race off, whereas the other horse he's rode the perfect race on it and it hasn't worked out for him. Anything that went after the winner has cut his own throat.

"Altaayil is no mug. The long-term aim has always been the Cesarewitch. He should have another run August-September before he goes to Newmarket."

As for Kloud Gate, Moore said: "Ryan said he felt very flat on him and he had nothing to carry him through. The winner had a solo."

The ground may detract from the chance of Moore's Sing Out Loud in today's opening race.

Moore said: He's a nice horse with course form, but any rain would be helpful to him. He's up a furlong. If it's quick ground I think he needs it."
